Hello and welcome! I'm Bethany White, and this blog is an assessed piece of work for my final year studying Film and Television Production at University of York, as part of the module 'Current Issues in Film and Television'. We've been given the freedom to choose the topic of our blog, as long as it's current - which I think mine is!

I'm so excited by this opportunity to explore a topic of interest to me. Over the past summer, I conducted a research project funded by the Laidlaw Foundation to study representation of women on screen and focused on the depiction of sexual violence and the recovery process in film. The project opened an area of interest I didn't know I had and I now wish to pursue this research further.

This blog is a great chance for me to expand my knowledge and understanding of how sexually aggressive behaviour is dealt with behind the cameras, regardless of how it is portrayed on screen. The breaking of the Weinstein scandal spurred me on to make the most of this chance; this will be a moment remembered in industry history, and I aim to take every opportunity to dig into the stories that emerge over the coming months. It's a moment of change in Hollywood and in society, for women all over the world, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.
